2019 15 Over 50: Michael Butler, CITP, CIS

By Connect Staff, April 29, 2019

Michael Butler CITP, CIS, works in Irving, Texas, as director of business development at Brightspot Incentives & EventsAs a 2019 15 Over 50 honoree, Butler discusses his passion for the events industry.

What I do: Hunting for new business opportunities matching our marketing program capabilities with client needs is my first passion. I help businesses drive engagement and results through motivational experiences offering fresh ideas and creative solutions—no cookie cutter here!

How I got here: I spent two decades with FedEx and learned so much from so many great servant leaders while working in customer service, retail operations and on many corporate projects and events that allowed me to develop a passion for travel. (My dad was a travel agent back in the early ’70s in our hometown; mom, a 30-year Hilton banquet waitress; and I married a flight attendant.) A good friend asked me to join Brightspot more than 10 years ago, and it has been the perfect match.

Greatest career accomplishment: Working with junior marketing executives sharing wisdom and experiences helping them to aspire and achieve more. I’ve also won the SITE Excellence Award- Leadership and multiple Brightspot President’s Awards.

Specific improvement I’ve made: I put a focus on continuous process improvements in sales and marketing, solutions design and sourcing. Driving efficiencies through CPI has enabled us to double the size of our firm including the number of employees past 10 years.

What I am working on now: Incentive travel trips from California to Florida, the Bahamas, Ireland, Cote d’Azur and B2B hospitality events at Pebble Beach (home of this year’s US Open), along with many other marketing programs worldwide! Brightspot is also launching our new Ignite 3.0 Incentive Platform with a creative design element and powerful customization options to support any sales incentive program.

What I do outside of work: I serve on Collin College Hospitality Advisory Board, Omni Hotels & Resorts Customer Advisory Board and Centerpoint Church Executive Leadership Team. I completed an Ironman and coach triathlon.
