2019 40 Under 40: Marcia Deem, CTSM, Relias

Marcia Deem, CTSM, 37, works in Raleigh, North Carolina, as events marketing manager at Relias. As a 2019 40 Under 40 honoree, Deem discusses her passion for the events industry.

What I do: I manage our events program, from strategy and budget, to on-site experience, and pre- and post-show integrated marketing campaigns. I drive support to sales divisions through lead generation efforts and I’m also responsible for brand awareness at each event and coordinating with key clients, conference planners and all other stakeholders to ensure visibility and engagement.

How I got here: I started my position with Relias in January after moving from Indianapolis to Raleigh for personal reasons. I’ve been in events for over eight years now and was also a marketing events manager before coming here. Working in the tech industry for more than two years definitely helped me getting this position.

Impressive stats: At my previous position, I created the events program from scratch, increasing the number of events from two in 2016 to 20 in 2017, and then more than 60 in 2018, keeping the ROI at three times our goal for events.

What I am working on now: I just started my new position with Relias and I’m excited to learn more about the industry.

What I do outside of work: I am very involved with the American Marketing Association. I love being outdoors and I’m excited for the summer here in North Carolina. I have easy access to the beach and the mountains—couldn’t ask for more.
