Belinda Joseph, 37, works in San Roman, California, as events marketing director at xMatters. As a 2017 40 Under 40 honoree, Joseph discusses her passion for the events industry.
What I do: I oversee the event strategy and execution of more than 50 industry and hosted events across North America, Europe and Asia. My day to day consists of developing and managing a marketing event plan that consists of digital marketing and lead-generation programs, content creation, creative, and evaluating event performance and metrics.
How I got here: I’ve been in a meeting planning role at various tech companies for several years. I started out managing trade show logistics, moved on to managing my own user conference with 1,500 attendees, and now I oversee the overall global event strategy. Each new experience has allowed me to be exposed to new and different ideas, creations and the constant evolution of events.
My greatest career accomplishment: I like to think my greatest gift is being able to create special moments, and I believe I’m able to do this because I genuinely try to understand and connect with people. My proudest moment was my last customer conference at my previous company. The theme centered on the power of connection. I created a meetup lounge for both ad hoc and scheduled meetups that allowed our attendees to have intimate campfirelike discussions around specific topics. The team and I also created a buddy program to connect new customers with our more tenured champions to help newcomers navigate their way through the conference.
