Blair Owen, 33, works in Memphis, Tennessee, as national sales manager at The Peabody. As a 2017 40 Under 40 honoree, Owen discusses her passion for the events industry.

What I do: I connect with people by providing solutions to their meeting needs. I’m responsible for maximizing revenue and market share for The Peabody, strengthening and developing relationships with new and past clients, and promoting the great city of Memphis.
How I got here: It was in South Carolina that I developed a passion for sales during my four years with Pepsi serving the hospitality/restaurant industry in Myrtle Beach. I moved to Memphis after a summer fling in Gulf Shores, Alabama, trading beaches for the Home of the Blues. From working in business development/food service management to hotel/property sales, I continued to thrive by meeting the needs of customers and developing reliable relationships. Most recently I joined The Peabody, representing the Northeast and pharmaceutical markets.
My greatest career accomplishment: In 2014 I was on the opening team for Bass Pro Shops’ second hotel property, constructed in the Memphis Pyramid, former home of U of M Basketball and the Memphis Grizzles. It was opening the Big Cypress Lodge when I discovered how leadership and transparency are essential in establishing a sales department from the ground up.
