Concept3D Adds Dimensions to Exploring Convention Centers

As more convention centers look for innovative ways to highlight their space, many have joined the digital world to bring their center to life with the help of Concept3D.

Concept3D, based in Denver, creates immersive online experiences for convention centers to offer planners, attendees, exhibitors, vendors and guests an easier way to navigate their venue and plan out their events.

Using information gathered from PDFs, CAD files, multiple site visits and photos, the company creates the convention centers on a digital platform with 3-D modeling, interactive maps, VR-enabled virtual software and wayfinding.

“What’s exciting for us is that the world is [clients’] oyster when creating maps for direction, wayfinding, showing where concessions are, etc.,” said Chris Munz, vice president of business development at Concept3D. “It can be used from a perceptive of space availability when it comes to selling space or doing asset tracking. There are many ways people can use the platform around the models.”

Since the company is located in the Mile High City, it’s only appropriate Colorado Convention Center worked with Concept3D to create its one-of-a-kind interactive map that launched in January.

“We saw the potential of Concept3D’s platform right away, and it was amazing to see our space come to life in a fully interactive 3-D map,” says John Adams, general manager of Colorado Convention Center. “We know the platform will improve the overall guest and attendee experience, and we’re excited for all the ways we can use it for both internal and external needs moving forward.”

Concept3D Catches On

Planners have a bird’s-eye view of the 584,000 square feet of meeting space and can explore the center’s learning rooms, exhibition hall, Bellco Theatre, parking spaces, escalators and other sections in the convention center from anywhere in the world.

One of the custom tools planners can use in the platform is Mapspacer, an application that allows them to search for ideal meeting spaces based on their specifications, number of people, square footage and desired layout. Planners can also respond quickly to RFPs with this tool.

Besides seeing the interior of convention centers, users can also view the exterior of convention centers and find out where surrounding hotels, attractions and restaurants are.

In addition to CCC, Hawaii Convention Center also worked with Concept3D to create a detailed interactive map of its 1.1 million-sq.-ft. center that launched in March.

“We see Concept3D as a powerful information hub that offers the ability to explore all that we have to offer,” says Teri Orton, general manager of the Hawaii Convention Center. “It’s an engaging way to experience the center from anywhere in the world and will certainly help our sales and marketing team be more effective at what they do.”

Other centers that have reimagined their space with Concept3D include Pasadena Convention Center, Tucson Convention Center and Columbus Convention Center.

“For all these years, PDFs and spreadsheets have been the way they [convention centers] have been portraying their spaces,” said Munz. “And that’s very flat. If you can go 3-D, it’s like Christopher Columbus telling everyone in Spain that the world is round. Because now you can visualize it in a way you’ve never seen it before. You can discover new things about your space.”
