Greener Pastures: 6 Destinations to Consider

By Matt Swenson, August 11, 2017

Find greener pastures by looking at these six destinations with emerald-inspired names have increased their spectrum of venue options for event planners.

Greenville, S.C.

Between new arrivals Up on the Roof (a rooftop bar available for rental) and speakeasy Vault & Vator, Greenville is pouring it on to draw groups. The Commons, a 20,000-sq.-ft. food hall, is slated to join the new F&B haunts later this year too. For receptions or off-site fun, the upscale Stone Pin Company bowling alley, opened in May, will strike both planners’ and attendees’ fancies. Connecting it all will be two new trolley routes—one to West Greenville and the other to Cleveland Park.

Green Bay, Wis.

What’s old is new again here. Venerable Lambeau Field, home to the original NFL champion Packers, is the centerpiece around which the city’s 34-acre Titletown District is being built. Most notable is Lodge Kohler, a 144-room hotel slated to open in July. Coming in August is Johnsonville Tailgate Village, a 13,000-sq.-ft. events space for up to 500 attendees available on nongame days (it’s near Lambeau but not in Titletown). Beyond football, Backstage at the Meyer has added space for up to 400 attendees to convene at the historic Meyer Theatre. Speaking of classics, The Automobile Gallery—which displays at least 50 classic cars each day—near KI Convention Center may drive traffic for events with its boardroom or as an off-site reception venue.

An unengaged audience is the worst nightmare for a panel. Planners can assist panelists by suggesting these techniques to connect to the audience.

See how a $20 million renovation imparted a design overhaul and changed MICE prospects for the 90-year-old Talbott Hotel in Chicago’s Gold Coast.

A strong relationship between a DMO and convention center is the backbone of a city that successfully earns meetings business.

To be a more effective negotiator, meeting planners will learn how hotels evaluate their businesses and manage their inventory of space, rates and dates.
