Idea Spark: Cultural Conversations About Ethnicity

Take attendees out of their comfort zones with an eye-opening icebreaker on ethnicity, inspired by Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary adjunct professor Virginia Ward’s talk at The Orange Conference. Her big idea: Discuss ethnicity, heritage and culture. “Everybody has an ethnicity, not just people of color,” says Ward. “Have those awkward conversations, and don’t be afraid to talk about race and ethnicity.” Our take on the idea: Have attendees pair up to ask questions about each other’s heritage. “Connect with someone. Press through the awkwardness to get to the ‘real,’” she encourages.
